Exclusive Interview
A unique editiorial point of view and the hard work of an unpaid, all-volunteer editorial staff.
What is your magazine about?
The art and politics of the cinema.
How do you produce one issue? How much time do you spend on it? How big is your team?
We have three senior editors and a larger team of Associate and Assistant Editors who help us put together each issue.
Which are the key incredients for the success of your magazine?
A unique editiorial point of view and the hard work of an unpaid, all-volunteer editorial staff.
What are the difficulties you are confronted with? What would be \\\"the\\\" thing to help the magazine to improve?
We have a limited budget, which means most of our income goes to printing the magazine rather than marketing or promoting the magazine. We are currently making a serious effort to improve our website.
Where do you want the magazine to be in five years?
Larger circulation, all-color printing.
Tell us about your audience! Who are the readers of your magazine?
Film scholars, film educators, film students, film buffs, average moviegoers interested in reading intelligent film criticism.
Is remaining independent important to you? Is it part of the strategy?
Our independence is our most valuable asset. We publish only material we want to publish, and cover only those films and filmmakers we want to cover. We do not publish the magazine as a traditional commercial effort; our aim is not to make money but to provide serious commentary and criticism to our readers.
What\\\'s your relationship with advertisement? Does it influence your content? Do you care about advertising-driven-editorials?
We take advertising but it has absolutely no impact on our editorial coverage
Do you think that magazine readers still need to watch TV?
It\\\'s their decision and not for us to decide.
Which is your relationship with your printer? Does he play a main role in your development?
We have a good working relationship with our printer.
Which magazines did influence you most? What are you looking for in other magazines?
We do not look to other magazines to determine our direction.
What do you think of your issue 01, when you look back at it?
Embarrassing, but that was nearly forty years ago, and so understandable.
How many magazines do you buy / get / read each month? Do you qualify yourself a maniac?
I get dozens b of film, political, cultural, and general interest magazines monthly.
