Exclusive Interview

We are very lucky, since we love our advertisers. We like their work and the way they communicate it through images. They influence our creativity in a good way.

What is your magazine about?
Fashion, art, music and culture in its different forms of expression.

Who’s behind the project? Tell us about the founders, their backgrounds and their motivations!
Fabrizio Ferrini: former editor in chief of the independent magazine Caffelatte (unfortunately not out anymore). Giuseppe Magistro: A visual artist and mostly a party kid. Tommaso Garner: a designer. Giorgio Calace: a photographer. Anna Carraro: The most stylish girl in Milan. Antonio Moltoni: A repented investment banker who was too smart to work in finance. We all thought we had something to say and we needed a mean.

How do you produce one issue? How much time do you spend on it? How big is your team?
We are a bimonthly magazine and the production of one issue takes more than one month. Then since we are all friends and we live all together we never really stop working on the project.

What have been the important steps in the life of your magazine?
The time we realized our magazine was being read by the people we admire the most.

What are the key ingredients for the success of your magazine?
It’s home made and as all the products with this characteristic it keeps a deeper flavour.

What are the difficulties you are confronted with? What would be “the” thing to help the magazine to improve?
Money. We are totally self produced and doing the magazine forced us to make hard choices... no more expensive shopping...

Where do you want the magazine to be in five years?
We don’t expect anything too fancy to happen. We suppose the magazine will grow up naturally like a child that becomes teenager. Not so slowly though, more like a dog’s life.

Tell us about your audience! Who are the readers of your magazine?
We know only a few of them and they seem good fellows.

Is remaining independent important to you? Is it part of the strategy?
No, not really.

What’s your relationship with advertisement? Does it influence your content? Do you care about advertising-driven-editorials?
We are very lucky, since we love our advertisers. We like their work and the way they communicate it through images. They influence our creativity in a good way.

Do you think that magazine readers still need to watch TV?
Yes, why not. Trash TV is funny.

What is your relationship with your printer? Does he play a main role in your development?
We have a very good relationship, but he doesn’t play a main role.

Which magazines influence you most? What are you looking for in other magazines?
The editorial staff is composed by people of different ages that grew up reading different magazines. They all melt in THE END.

What do you think of your issue 01, when you look back at it?
The first issue is simply the beginning of a speech that will take many other issues to be finished.

What question did you never ask in your magazine but would have liked to?
We never censure ourselves. Though we are not very interested in embarrassing things.

How many magazines do you buy / get / read each month? Do you qualify yourself as a maniac?
We like reading the magazines of the people sitting next to us in the underground train. This trick can make people pretty mad.
