What is your magazine about?
Neo2 is a magazine about creativity in all its fields: fashion, art, furniture, music... even gastronomy.
Who's behind the project? Tell us about the founders, their backgrounds and their motivations!
Ipsum Planet, a creative studio created 15 years ago. Its founders (Rubén Manrique, Javier Abio and Ramón Fano) come from the graphic design and advertising creativity. Ipsum planet was created as a via to spread it's creative works. Neo2 is the most evident of all of them.
How do you produce one issue? How much time do you spend on it? How big is your team
It's impossible to count how long does it take for an issue, there are so much people working on at the same time. It takes months to be prepared. But it's true we are on different issues at the same time.
What have been the important steps in the life of your magazine?
1- Deciding to found Ipsum Planet 2- Deciding to do Neo2 3- Doing Neo2 each six months. 4- Doing neo2 each four months. 5- Doing Neo2 each 3 months. 6- Doing Neo2 each 2 months. 7-Doing Neo2 monthly. 8- Creating a Neo2 blog.
Which are the key ingredients for the success of your magazine?
Creativity and a lot of work.
What are the difficulties you are confronted with? What would be the thing to help the magazine to improve?
Difficulties and satisfactions of starting by ourselves, without bank loans, subsides or mortgages.
Where do you want the magazine to be in five years?
In every book shop, table or bathroom. And if it's possible before five years, that would be terrific.
Tell us about your audience! Who are the readers of your magazine?
Mainly creative professionals of every field of creativity.
Is remaining independent important to you? Is it part of the strategy?
It's not an strategy, it's a reality. You never know what is better or worse.
What's your relationship with advertisement? Does it influence your content? Do you care about advertising-driven-editorials?
we love advertisement. You have to remember our origins are in advertising creativity.
Whole life influences on contents. What is important is not losing our should. Readers are who decide which magazines have soul.
What do you think of your issue 01, when you look back at it?
Naive but great, right because of that.
Magazine favorite(s) that inspired you in your career.
i-d and The Face, a lot of time ago.
Do you keep old copies of magazines? If so, what is your favorite in your collection?
Yeah, of course. We guess the first ones, cause they're so naive and pride.
How many magazines do you buy / get / read each month? Do you qualify yourself a maniac?
We used to buy many more magazines. Now doing ours takes time enough to read anything else. However we buy three magazines more or less.
