Exclusive Interview

A strong concept (seven selected, in each issue) and a great balance of design and content.

What is your magazine about?
We interview seven celebrities from seven different areas, (music, design, advertising, art, fashion, film and sports).

Who’s behind the project? Tell us about the founders, their backgrounds and their motivations!
We are an independent publishing company (we also have another magazine, called TDI), created five years ago (2001) by Francisco Condorelli, Sebastian Costanzo and Fabian Izaguirre. The first proyect was G7, and we wanted to publish a magazine with the coolest design but with a deep content, almost like a book, something difficult to find.

How do you produce one issue? How much time do you spend on it? How big is your team?
We are around 20 people, including the website, and we work 20 days by issue, because is a monthly publication.

What have been the important steps in the life of your magazine?
Maybe some covers, or the presence in the Cannes Festival, representing Argentina. In this country, being alive one more day, is a great step.

Which are the key incredients for the success of your magazine?
A strong concept (seven selected, in each issue) and a great balance of design and content.

What are the difficulties you are confronted with? What would be “the” thing to help the magazine to improve?
Basically, the economic situation of our market.

Where do you want the magazine to be in five years?
Develop G7 in other countries.

Tell us about your audience! Who are the readers of your magazine?
Profesionals from several areas, linked to creative industries.

Is remaining independent important to you? Is it part of the strategy?
When we say “independent”, we mean “not to belong to any publishing group”, but reality makes you work thinking in your sponsors. That happens…

What’s your relationship with advertisement? Does it influence your content? Do you care about advertising-driven-editorials?
We don’t have advertorials, but of course we help brands to communicate their news, and being that news interesting for our readers, it is not a problem.

Do you think that magazine readers still need to watch TV?
Absolutely.

Which is your relationship with your printer? Does he play a main role in your development?
Absolutely. They must understand what we are selling (quality) and we also work in special inserts for the advertisers, so…, they are important.

Which magazines did influence you most? What are you looking for in other magazines?
ID is a great magazine, but G7 is another thing, very different.

What do you think of your issue 01, when you look back at it?
The same that any would think about their my fist time in sex.

What question did you never ask in your magazine but would have liked to?
I will think about.

How many magazines do you buy / get / read each month? Do you qualify yourself a maniac?
2 or 3, no more. No, I’m not.
