Who’s behind the project? Tell us about the founders, their
backgrounds and their motivations!
Malene Malling former founder of Costume Magazine left the more commercial Benjamin Publishing in order to pursue her own vison in fashion orientated publishing.
How do you produce one issue? How much time do you spend on it? How big is your team?
8 people work fulltime, several photographers, stylist, writers and illustrators work freelance.
What have been the important steps in the life of your magazine?
Realising one day that we probably would not buy the magazine ourselves
and the following process of finding out what we as individuals were looking for in a magazine.
Which are the key ingredients for the success of your magazine?
Parties and other events, very good network and ambitions.
Where do you want the magazine to be in five years?
Leading style publishing in Scandivania on paper aswell as web.
What’s your relationship with advertisement? Does it influence your content? Do you care about advertising-driven-editorials?
Yes.
Do you think that magazine readers still need to watch TV?
Nobody needs TV. Nobody needs magazines, but still…
Which is your relationship with your printer? Does he play a main role in your development?
No.
Which magazines did influence you most? What are you looking for in other magazines?
Before The Face, today it is Paris Vogue and several
alternative publications like I-D Magazine & Numéro
What do you think of your issue 01, when you look back at it?
Could have been better and it did get better.
How many magazines do you buy / get / read each month? Do you qualify yourself a maniac?
Probably around 10-12 magazines so as a group the answer
would definitly be yes.
