After much discussion, we've decided to end the Colophon adventure.

We have neither the time nor the resources to surpass what we already made together under this name.

Colophon will be archived while we prepare our next creations.

Founded in 2000

Exit was established in September 2000 by Central Saint Martin's photography graduate, Stephen Toner, who felt there was a gap to be filled for a high quality, image-led publication that would appeal to a wide reaching audience, both in the UK and internationally. "As a photographer myself, I feel I have an understanding of what is and is not acceptable," says Toner. "We publish work that not only represents the true face of photography but also demonstrates how photographers want to be perceived in an industry that rarely affords them the opportunity."
The successful launch of Exit One took place on September 27th 2000, during London Fashion Week. At a party held at the exclusive members club, Form in Soho, London over 1000 guests and clients where entertained with a DJ set from the internationally acclaimed Kruder & Dorfmeister. The premier issue of Exit, featuring more than 100 pages of art, fashion and landscape photography, went on to receive notable industry acclaim and in November 2000 Exit's Art Director, Mark Jubber, was awarded Creative Future in Editorial Design at the prestigious Creative Review Creative Future Awards. It was at this stage also that Exit registered and launched its highly innovative website successfully running alongside the magazine and its contents.

In February 2001 a more intimate gathering of just 200 distinguished VIP guests and clients heralded the arrival of Issue Two at The Apart Gallery in London's Portobello Road. Exit Two featured a 100% increase in editorial content (from 100 pages to 200 pages) as Exit's accelerated growth continued apace. Continually setting new standards in repro and print quality, Exit now began to capitalise on its strong brand identity. It was also at this time that Exit began what has become an extremely synergetic partnership with London's leading photographic lab Tapestry.
