Colophon 2011

Exclusive Interview

This adventure has to go on, and I have to learn more about it, on and on…

What is your magazine about?
Contemporary art

Who’s behind the project? Tell us about the founders, their backgrounds and their motivations!
Laurent Brunet is editor, writer and graphist.

How do you produce one issue? How much time do you spend on it? How big is your team?
I am alone, helped just for corrections. One issue needs about one month to be prepared and another month to be published.

What have been the important steps in the life of your magazine?
Every step is meaningful from the beginning till now, and it is still changing. Soon there will be a new mock up !

Which are the key ingredients for the success of your magazine?
The success is only made by the readers, as Lisières is an independent review.

What are the difficulties you are confronted with? What would be “the” thing to help the magazine to improve?
To get a better information about its existence.

Where do you want the magazine to be in five years?
This adventure has to go on, and I have to learn more about it, on and on…

Tell us about your audience! Who are the readers of your magazine?
Who\\\'s to knows ? Readers are interested and curious about the field of contemporary art and more generally, about cultural life.

Is remaining independent important to you? Is it part of the strategy?
It is definitely meaningful to be independent, for the absolute freedom its offers.

What’s your relationship with advertisement? Does it influence your content? Do you care about advertising-driven-editorials?
There is (and there will be forever) none.

Do you think that magazine readers still need to watch TV?
I think readers need NOT to watch TV !

Which is your relationship with your printer? Does he play a main role in your development?
After the years, I have been learning to work more and more with and not against the printer ! I am very attached to publish a paper issue, not only virtual one.

Which magazines did influence you most? What are you looking for in other magazines?
Mainly unknown little editors! Such different things, according to my selective needs.

What do you think of your issue 01, when you look back at it?
It was obviously not good enough, quite childish, but anyway, the way has to be opened!

What question did you never ask in your magazine but would have liked to?
It is a review mainly made of questions asked to several creators.

How many magazines do you buy / get / read each month? Do you qualify yourself a maniac?
I hope not to be a maniac, and I buy several magazines each month, but it is not that regular.
